Q4 2020 - Alternative Energy Market Update

November 4, 2020

GreenFront Energy’s market update is designed to provide a quarterly snapshot of market trends across the Alternative Energy (AE) landscape. Our intent is not to provide exhaustive research on each topic, but to distill a large amount of information into an organized, easily readable, reference document that enables our readers to stay up to speed on topics like M&A, Capital Markets, Project Development, ESG, and Corporate PPA Activity. We cover companies and activity across the AE value chain, with a focus on Wind, Solar, Storage, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), Carbon Capture & Sequestration (CCS), and Cleantech.

Despite this year’s macro disruptions (this week’s election is no exception!), AE continues to see dynamic growth. End user demand is on the rise at the same time that improvements in technology continue driving the levelized cost of energy from AE sources below that of traditional fossil fuel-based resources. Developers and sponsors are facing stiff competition due to the glut of capital rushing to play in the space while regulatory and tax equity obstacles are challenging project viability and economics. Battery storage is the topic du jour and we don’t see that subsiding any time soon. Investors are pressuring Corporates to address their impact on climate change which in turn increases appetite for Renewable Attributes across the board (e.g. REC’s, RIN’s, LCFS, etc).

All said, there’s a lot of exciting work being done at the moment, and our role here at GreenFront is to bring together the financial, intellectual, entrepreneurial, and natural resources to meaningfully decarbonize our energy sector. Our service offering covers all aspects of PPA Advisory, M&A Advisory, and Capital Formation. We’re constantly refreshing our views and updating our materials as events unfold and new information becomes available, so please contact us directly any time or check back in here for a refresh.
