Q2 2021 - Alternative Energy Market Update

May 19, 2021

GreenFront Energy’s market update provides a quarterly snapshot of market trends across the Alternative Energy (AE) landscape. Our intent is not to provide exhaustive research on each topic, but to distill a large amount of information into an organized, easily readable, reference document that enables our readers to stay up to speed on topics like M&A, Capital Markets, Project Development, ESG, and Corporate PPA Activity. We cover companies and activity across the AE value chain, with a focus on Wind, Solar, Storage, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), Carbon Capture & Sequestration (CCS), Hydrogen, and Cleantech.

What’s new since our Q1’21 update?

  1. The Biden administration made aggressive commitments to reduce U.S. GHG emissions by 2030 to 50% below 2005 levels,

  2. The SEC issued new SPAC accounting and reporting guidance that contributed to market volatility and a slump in activity this spring, and;

  3. The Texas state legislature advanced bills to overhaul the ERCOT market that include contentious provisions shifting the financial burden of day-ahead electricity guarantees to renewable power providers.

Momentum behind the clean energy transition continues to grow in light of some of these challenges. The American Jobs Plan will provide another boost by extending renewable tax credits, developing a federal clean energy framework, and investing heavily in state and local clean energy development. Enjoy our Q2’21 market update and don’t hesitate to reach out to our team with questions, comments, or any feedback you have.
